Husband and wife Matt and Hannah O’Brien were fastest male and female riders respectively at the Wolsey Road Club’s 25-mile time trial in Norfolk on Sunday, with Hannah breaking the women’s course record.
The event near Harleston was run off in dry and warm conditions on the B25/50 course, with fast times in both the men’s and women’s events.
Both riding for Loose Cannon’s Conditioning, Matt and Hannah O’Brien ensured a successful day for their household with victories.
Matt’s winning time of 52.34 saw off Harley Matthews (DAP Cycling Club) who finished second in a time of 53.14.
More impressively was Hannah’s victory in a time of 59.32, which also broke the course record. Amy Pritchard (Giant Camden Team Liv) who previously held the course record finished second in a time of 1.00.10.
Both Matt and Hannah O’Brien also took the team prize, assisted by Phil Bailey (1.09.30).
Using the A143, the course begins just north east of Harleston and heads north eastwards to Bungay and back.
This was Hannah O’Brien’s sixth open time trial victory in a row, having won the Godris CC 10 and East District CA 10 in June, the VC Norwich 10 and Orwell Velo 20 in May, as well as the CC Breckland 10 in April.
She is next due to be in action over a longer distance, having entered the Godric CC 50-mile time trial on July 18.
This was Matt’s first open time trial victory of the season so far, but he has recorded several podium finishes with second in the Godric CC 10 in June as well as third in three VTTA (East Anglia) 10-mile events as well as third in the VC Baracchi 10 in May.
