Ollie Hucks (Aerolab Ward Wheelz) and Lauren Davies (GS Henley) smashed the men’s and women’s course records respective on their way to winning the Maidenhead & District Cycling Club 29.5.

Under-23 rider Hucks took three minutes and 43 seconds off the previous course record to win in a time of 1-03-29.

The H29/18 course known locally as the ‘Hilly 30tt’ sees riders start outside Lane End near High Wycombe before completing a lumpy 29.5-mile loop around the Chilterns taking in Nettlebed and Henley-on-Thames before following the river over to Marlow and then up to the finish.

The mild September Sunday morning led to a perfect temperature of around 14-16 degrees with a light westerly breeze.

Hucks, who finished second in the Leamington C&AC last month, went one better on this occasion to take a fine victory.

Starting seventh rider off Hucks caught all before him and was the first rider to complete the course, approximately 10 minutes before the next rider crossed the finish line.

After winning the Utag RT 10 the previous day Chris Bartley (AS Test Team) had to settle for second clocking 1-04-33.

Rob Walker (Cambridge University CC) also had hopes of taking the course record and despite beating the previous mark by eight seconds, he had to settle for third overall in 1-06-04.

The course record also tumbled in the women’s event with Davies setting a new mark of 1-14-56, beating the previous time by three minutes and 59 seconds.

Fellow veteran Jayne Paine (Les Filles Racing Team) finished second in 1-21-53 while Vesta Zemaite (Optima Racing Team) rounded off the podium positions clocking 1-27-32.
