Tom Parsons (Bolsover and District CC) notched the first recorded victory of his career when winning the Team Sportslab hill climb on Sunday. Kieran Smith finished in second place and broke the junior course record.

Hannah Bayes from team Liv AWOL finished first out of the women and also broke the women’s course record. That was the 21-year-old’s second consecutive hill climb victory after she finished first of the females at last year’s Vive Le Velo.

31-year-old Parsons’ previous best in hill climbs had come back in 2019 when he finished third in the Tickhill Velo Club.

18-year-old Smith from Tibshelf represents Team Lifting Gear and carried on his impressive form from 2019, in which he finished in the top ten of open hill climb events seven times. He broke the previous junior course record with a time of 2:15.15.

Matthew Ellis from team Saint Piran completed the podium, finishing third with a time of 2:16.64.

The 0.8-mile course starts at the bottom of Sleaford Road near the A607, the cyclists then climb up the road and finish past Hill Top Farm.
