Ben Lloyd (Pro Vision Racing) showed his strength in his first open 50-mile event to take a clear victory in the SCCA & WCTTCA 50, while Erica Booth (Lancashire RC) added another win to her collection in the women’s event.

With no road racing this season Lloyd has turned his hand to time trailing with great success and took victory in the Midlands VTTA 10.

Over the much longer 50 miles distance Lloyd was in fine form clocking a winning time of one hour, 50 minutes and 31 seconds.

The SCCA & WCTTCA 50 saw riders complete four laps of a circuit of around 12.5 miles starting on the A49 near Prees.

Traveling north riders joined the A41 towards Whitchurch before turning south B5576 through Tilstock and then turning and cutting across back to the finish on the A49.

Riders were greeted by cold conditions with the wind picking up throughout the morning favouring the early starters.

A low sun also challenged the visibility of riders on one leg of the course.

Lloyd was a convincing victor finishing four minutes and 19 seconds ahead his nearest challenger.

A close battle for second saw Daniel Watts (Royal Air Force Cycling Association) finish in 1-54-50 which was just eight seconds quicker than veteran Victor Chetta (Pirate Juice CC).

Leading junior rider Henri Bedford (Revolution Racing) put in another impressive performance taking seventh overall in 1-57-29.

In the women’s category veteran rider Booth added another victory to her collection in a winning time of 2-07-24.

Booth previously won the Giant Helston 25 and finished seventh in last weekend’s National 50 Mile Championships.

Leading the remains of the women’s field home was Tara Grosvenor (VeloVitesse/Allcap/James Barry) who took second in 2-10-43 while Liz Batt (Buxton CC/Sett Valley Cycles) finished third clocking 2-20-31.
