Experienced rider Tony Chapman (Frome and District Wheelers) battled to his first victory of the season in the Chippenham & District Wheelers 10, while Mary-Jane Hutchinson (Bristol South Cycling Club) won the women’s event.
Chapman, aged 48 and from Warminster, battled through the elements on a drying course to clock a winning time of 22 minutes and eight seconds.
Riders started near the Cotswold Country Park near South Cerney before joining the B4696 heading north westerly before crossing two roundabouts and heading south on Cirencester Road past Latton to the turn and then making the return journey.
Overnight rain saw a host of riders withdraw with just 30 of the 104 riders entered taking to the start line.
Standing water on the course dried during the morning favouring those later starters.
Chapman who had recorded two fifth place finishes so far this season went much better on this occasion clocking an average speed of 27.1 miles per hour on his way to victory.
Jordan Wintle (Cheltenham & County Cycling Club) finished second just 11 seconds behind the winner in 22-19 while veteran Kevin Lane (Droitwich Cycling Club) finished third (23-03).
Juvenile Alex Coles (Towy Riders Cycle Club) finished in 27-04 while fastest woman was Mary-Jane Hutchinson (Bristol South Cycling Club) in 33-33.
Worcester St Johns CC won the team prize with their trio being made up of Paul Guest, Rikky Hughes and Martin Lines.
