World Tour rider Harry Tanfield (AG2R La Mondiale) returned home and took victory by over four minutes in the Darlington CC 25, while Sophie Lankford (Jadan CycleSpace- Vive Le Velo) took the women’s honours.
Tanfield, aged 25, from Middlesbrough, battled tough conditions and a lumpy course to clock a winning time of 47 minutes and eight seconds.
The T254/1 course starts from near Bedale in North Yorkshire and travels out and back along the old A6055 which runs parallel to the A1.
Tanfield, who rode the Tour of Poland race in the World Tour earlier this month, was using the race as preparation for forthcoming road races on the continent.
The fight for the remaining podium places was a close one with the next five riders separated by just over a minute.
Host club rider Marcel Schubert (Darlington CC) eventually came away with second clocking 47-08- just three seconds faster than Kris Atkin (Team Kirkley Cycles).
“It was a good run out and the first time that I’ve done a time trial over 20 minutes in length this year,” said Tanfield.
“I didn’t have a time in my mind but concentrated on my power. I broke the ride into four legs; to go out, the middle two to keep the pressure on and the final one to bring it home.
“Despite there being ups and downs on the course I didn’t want to let my speed drop below 45 kilometres per hour to try and not get too hit by the wind.
“There was no flat and it is up and down on that course and there is 200 metres of climbing.”
In the women’s event Lankford, who finished seventh in the National Circuit Championship last season, took clear victory clocking 59-22.
Liv AWOL team-mates Louise Scupham and Hannah Bayes both clocked 1-02-22 and tied for second place.
