Richard Bideau won again in the Pennines and Charlotte Boothman was some distance ahead in the West Pennine Road Club’s 14.6-mile hilly open event near Knowle Green, Lancashire on Saturday.
Bideau (Pendle Forest CC) had a strong record in events hosted by West Pennine Road Club last season finishing runner-up before winning the other he entered, and enjoyed success yet again on Saturday with his first win of the season.
Only 12 seconds may have separated him from second place but the 49-year-old showed no signs of slowing down, no doubt looking to match his feat of 12 victories last season in open events.
Bideau clocked a winning time of 34-20 ahead of Craig Battersby (Team Chronomaster) who recorded his best finish in over a year in open time trials.
Battersby missed out by seconds having posted a time of 34-32, improving on his fifth place here from 2018.
Lancashire Road Club’s Carl Potter sealed the podium places with a time of 35-25.
Charlotte Boothman (Team Lusso) finished quickest woman by a comprehensive time difference of three minutes and 30 seconds, missing out on the overall top ten by a slim 12 seconds.
Boothman crossed the finish line in 38-10 and looks to be in good form as she will undoubtedly be looking to build on last season’s performances which saw her finish in the top-five at the National 25-mile Championship in August.
Anna Weaver (East Lancashire RC) finished second in 41-40 with Emma Houterman (North Lancashire RC) in third.
Richard Bideau was also fastest veteran on the day with tenth place overall Patrick Casey (Team Lifting Gear Products/Cycles in Motion) was quickest junior rider in 37-53.
