Alastair Ribbands (Manchester Wheelers) and Michelle Fairclough (Salford CC) battled against a strong wind to take victories in the University of Manchester CC 25 in Cheshire on Sunday.
Ribbands narrowly missed out on an illusive win last season but took top spot early in his 2020 campaign taking victory by 10 seconds.
The J4/8 course near Northwich saw riders complete a starting loop and then two laps of a triangle course around the Cheshire countryside.
The wet weather from the previous day made way for sunny but cool conditions and a strong westerly wind tested riders.
Ribbands, aged 36 and from Altrincham, came out on top of a four-way fight for top spot, which saw the top quartet of riders separated by just 32 seconds.
Ribbands winning time of 54 minutes and 25 seconds was 10 seconds faster than Richard Bott (Richard Bott Racing), while David Griffiths (Bioracer-Moriarty Bikes) finished third in 54.52.
Missing out on a podium position by just five seconds was Scott Burns (Manchester Bicycle Club) finishing in 54.57.
Veteran rider Fairclough took the women’s honours in a winning time of one hour 11 minutes and 20 seconds. She finished ahead of Milly Deer (North Shropshire Wheelers) in second (1:14.38) and Adele Reynolds in third (1:17.50).
