Alice Gilmore and Richard Cartland took victories in the Sussex CA hill-climb event on Saturday morning held in Steyning, West Sussex.
South Downs Bikes rider Richard Cartland topped the timesheets to capture his first hill-climb victory of the season.
The 41-year-old’s time of 4-27.6 helped complete back-to-back victories in this event hosted by the cycling association of Sussex.
It is Cartland’s second victory this season with the other coming in a 10-mile event back in April.
Second to the winner was Paul Newsome (Project 51) who finished 15 seconds adrift in 4-42.3 in his first recorded hill-climb of the season.
Riding in his first event for four months according to records, James Gilmore (Brighton Mitre CC) recorded his best finish in hill climbing by finishing third.
Gilmore clocked 4-58.1 to record consecutive podiums in as many events on record and finish top junior this time around.
James’ sister Alice (Brighton Mitre CC) posted a time of 6-47.1 to take the women’s prize.
The near one-mile climb starts at the base of Bostal Road near Castle Lane Park and heads out of the residential areas, following the road for the duration of the race before coming to an end as the road crosses into the village boundary of Bramber.
