Luke Clarke (TMG Horizon Cycling Team) took the men’s win by over a minute in the Bossard Wheelers 25, while Emily Robertson (Nopinz) dominated the women’s event in Hertfordshire.
Clarke, who finished second in the Hitchin Nomads 25 last month, took a clear victory in dry and warm conditions on the course near Hitchin.
The F1B/25 course saw the wind pick up through the morning as riders faced a rising headwind along the A1 on the uphill drag towards Baldock.
Competitors had a nicer return home back on the A1 back towards St Neots with a tailwind and the last eight miles sloping downwards.
Michael Hutchinson’s course record of 48.24 set in 2004 was once again safe as Clarke stopped the clock in a time of 51.09.
Leading the charge behind for second was veteran rider Peter Lawrence (High Wycombe CC) whose 52.23 was 11 seconds faster than Adam Fisher (Cambridge CC) in third.
In the women’s event 33-year-old Robertson, a former medallist at the National 25 and National 50, went one better than her second in the Lovelo Racing 50 on Bank Holiday Monday.
She set a time to beat of 55 minutes and 33 seconds with veteran rider Katja Rietdorf (Born to Bike- Bridgtown Cycles) taking second in 1:00.53 while Helen Boatman (Team Milton Keynes) took third in 1:04.16.
