Samuel Wadsley

Simone Mitchell and Samuel Wadsley were fastest female and male riders respectively as the Wessex Road Club staged the South District 50-Mile Championships near Lytchett Minster in Dorset on Sunday.

Wadsley (Primera TeamJobs) clocked 1-47-54 to take the title, while second-placed female Angela Carpenter (a3crg) was crowned the South District women’s champion with a time of 1-59-47, less than a minute behind Mitchell.

The testing P417 course starts near Pikes Farm and heads through Holes Bay, Tower Park, Bere Regis, Troy Town, back through Holes Bay and Organford.

It was Wadlsey’s fourth open time trial victory of the season so far as he continues to show good form.

He was the winner of the Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers 42-kilometre road bike event back in early April, and then was fastest at the Bournemouth Arrow 10 the following week.

A win in the Bournemouth and District WCA 25 on April 28 followed, before he continued his form with a strong ride in the Welsh Championship on the fast Rhigos course, clocking a personal best 48-51.

Wadsley is next due to be in action in the a3crg midweek 10 on Wednesday evening, before tackling the Portsmouth North End CC 25 on June 2.

Mitchell’s performance was her first open time trial of the year, and was some way off her personal best time of 1-57-07 which she set on the P885/50 course near Liss in 2017.

Angela Carpenter

South DC 50 Champion Carpenter has also shown great form in recent months.

She started the season well with a win in the VC St Raphael sporting 16.5-mile event in February, and backed that up with victories in the Farnborough and Camberley 10, a3crg 10 and Fareham Wheelers 10 in March as well as second spot in the women’s category at round one of the Sigma Sport Classic Series.

April saw her take second spot in the Ogmore Valley Wheelers 25 in South Wales, as well as the Brighton Mitre hilly 10 where only Hayley Simmonds was fastest.

She was victorious in the Sotonia CC sporting 14.8 as well as the VTTA (Surrey/Sussex) 10, before May where she won the VTTA (London and Home Counties) 10 and the a3crg midweek women’s 10.
