Eleanor Haresign and Adam Duggleby were fastest female and male riders as Sheffrec CC staged the North Midlands 25-Mile Championships in South Yorkshire on Saturday.
Duggleby’s time of 49-57 was a new course record by around a minute, beating Connor Swift’s previous best for the O25/11, and being the first time anyone has done a 30mph ride on this course.
Second spot – and the North Midlands Championship title – went to Sheffrec CC rider Liam Bromiley with 51-03, while Hayden Allen (THRE Datawolves) was 39 seconds back in third.
And in the women’s event Eleanor Haresign (Vitfor OTE) clocked 1-02-05 to win the women’s race by around 16 minutes from Tracey Coldwell (Holmfirth CC), although as none of their clubs are North Midlands clubs they were not eligible for the championship title.
The North Midlands Championship team prize went to the Sheffrec CC trio of Bromiley, Andrew Whiteley and Keith Ainsworth, the latter two being seventh and eight respectively.
Duggleby’s win was the first of two he secured over the weekend, with victory also coming in Sunday’s Selby CC 10 where he was also setting a new course record.
As well as this weekend’s two victories, in-form Duggleby also proved victorious in the Cleveland Coureurs 10 last weekend as well as the Rossington Wheelers tandem 25 on May 4 and the Croston Velo 10 solo event in April.
Haresign’s win was her second on record this season, coming after she took victory in the Harrogate Nova CC 15-mile event in March.
The O25/11 course is based near Hatfield Woodhouse, and takes riders from the start to the north of the village and eastwards along the A18 to Ealand before retracing and then turning down the A614 to Blaxton, where they once again turn around and head back up to the finish just south of Hatfield Woodhouse.
