James Claydon (Bill Nickson Cycles) was fastest rider to the top of Woodplumpton Road as Rossendale RCC staged the event near Crown Point, Burnley, on Saturday.
An easterly breeze greeted riders to the climb, which Claydon covered in 3:06.71 to win by around 22 seconds from the promoting club’s Mark Berry, while another Rossendale rider in Patrick Hickey was third, another 18 seconds back.
Rossendale were also celebrating having the fastest veteran on the day in the shape of Pony Bowler who clocked 3:49.55, while quickest of the juniors was Ribble Valley CRC’s Tom Alker who covered the 1000-metre climb in 4:02.85
Claydon’s win is his first of the season, having previously placed seventh in the Lancaster CC climb of Conder Bottoms, and 13th in both the Lancaster CC climb of Jubilee Tower on the same day as well as the Border City Wheelers climb of Hartside in Cumbria the following week.
He is next due to be in action in the Lancashire Road Club’s climb of The Rake at Ramsbottom next weekend which is a similar distance to the Rossendale event, and he has also entered the North Lancashire Road Club event on Nick O’Pendle near Sabden on October 20.
