Marcus Cram’s efforts fell just short of overall victory despite second stage glory as Kieran Wynne-Cattanach took the combined win in Lancaster CC’s hill-climb double header, this time at Jubilee Towers near Quernmore, Lancaster.
Marcus Cram (Blaydon CC) nearly overcame a seven-second deficit but fell nearly two seconds short of overall Lancaster CC hill-climb victory.
Cram finished third in the day’s first stage and went two places better in the latter and final stage taking a five-second victory. He crossed the line in 7-03.9.
Kieran Wynne-Cattanach (B38/Cycles in Motion) laid down the marker earlier on and after winning the first stage by a considerable margin, his victory was almost inevitable barring a shock.
The 22-year-old had to settle for second in the Jubilee Towers stage with a time of 7-09.3 but held onto overall victory over Cram by just 1.9 seconds.
The win would be Wynne-Cattanach’s latest in the annual event since his 2016 victory.
Andy Cunningham (Ilkley CC) was just a further 0.7 seconds off the overall victor clocking 7-10.0 in third.
In the women’s event, Harriet Gilson’s first stage victory handed her the overall prize as no women featured in the second event of the day.
