David Medhurst led a 1-2-3 for Cardiff Ajax CC in the Realteam.co.uk 10.9-mile time trial in Monmouthshire, while Michelle Fishbourne (CES Sport) was fastest female in the event near Raglan on Thursday evening.
29-year-old Medhurst clocked 24-16 for the 10.9-mile R10/24 course to take the win by just over a minute from team-mate Thomas Dye, while another Cardiff Ajax rider was third – Rob Jones.
Fishbourne, 52, clocked 30-12 to take the women’s prize in the testing event, which saw riders go from the start and head south on minor roads towards Usk before looping back round over the A449 and back up towards Raglan.
It was Medhurst’s first open victory on record this season, but comes after a string of top ten placings. He was second in the Realteam.co.uk 10 last month, as well as fifth in the Cardiff 100 RCC 50-mile event last weekend. And earlier in the season he was second in the Realteam.co.uk hill-climb event in May.
He was due to ride in Sunday’s Welsh 10-Mile Championship, and next weekend should be tackling the Sportzmad 10 on Saturday before he goes for a fast 25-mile time in the Realteam.co.uk 25 at Rhigos.
Fishbourne has also been prolific this season. Among her victories are the Ross on Wye CC 25 and Port Talbot Wheelers 10 last month, while she was also fastest female at the Bynea CC 10 and Port Talbot Wheelers 10 in May.
She is next due to be in action in the Sportzmad 10 next Saturday, and has also entered the same club’s ten on August 31.
