Veteran Daniel Barnett (Team Bottrill) made light work of the tough conditions to take a clear victory in the VTTA Midlands 25-mile time trial in Staffordshire on Sunday morning.
The usual fast K16/25 course out and back along the A38 has a renowned history as being one of the fastest 25-mile courses in the country on a good day.
However, competitors were met by awful conditions and 25 miles per hour winds seeing over 10 per cent of the field not taking to the start line.
But the weather didn’t dismay Barnett who clocked a winning time of 51 minutes and 59 seconds and the fastest veteran on standard.
Carl Shaw (Race Hub) took advantage of the conditions to take second place on the day in a time of 53.48 while veteran Jon Surtees (CES Sport) completed the podium positions finishing in 55.04.
The fastest time of the day was set by tandem pairing Richard Bussell (AeroCoach) and Steve Croggon (Beacon Roads CC) who clocked 50.57.
Meanwhile the fastest woman was veteran rider Anne Staley (Mercia-Lloyds Cycles CC), the 68-year-old clocking a time of 1:14.44.
