Chris Smart (GTR- Return to life) and Emma Lewis (The Independent Pedaler) were once again in emphatic form as they rode to victory in the Derby Mercury 25 incorporating the Emergency Services 25 Championships.

Smart and Lewis also clinched victory in the Emergency Services 10 Championships the previous day leading them to winning the combined competition.

The A25/2 course saw riders complete a looped course which started in Barnstone before heading north onto the A52 and completing a tough climb.

After turning left onto an undulating section, the course then looped back onto the A52 to complete another climb and then turning for home.

Scratch rider Smart had the confidence of the previous day’s victory and took top spot once again with a time of 52 minutes and 14 seconds.

Last season Lucock won the championship on a different course in a time of 53-15 and despite going much quicker on this occasion his time of 52-53 was only good enough for second.

Akin to the previous day, Lewis took third overall clocking 54-40 while Terry Wilkinson (Barnesbury CC) was fourth overall and third fastest male clocking 55-20.

After taking an emphatic victory in the women’s 10 Championship event the previous day, Lewis increased her margin to win the 25 event to win by over 11 minutes from Lisa Hurrell (Maldon & District CC) in second clocking 1-06-15.

Lewis also took a convincing win in the combined competition with Hurrell second.
