Veteran rider Nick Dwyer (Lewes Wanderers CC) and Toni Wilkes (London Women’s Racing CC) rode to victories in the VTTA Surrey/Sussex 10.
Despite cold conditions and a head wind on the return leg Dwyer thrived in the conditions setting a winning time of 21 minutes and 28 seconds.
The 55-year-old from Brighton finished third in the same event last season clocking a slower time of 21.51 on that occasion.
The G10/87 course saw riders start outside East Hoathly before heading down the A22 to towards Horsebridge before making the uphill return leg.
In a close battle for the top three places Dwyer finished just eight seconds faster than Gary Brind (South Down Bikes/Casco Europe) who finished second in 21.36 while scratch rider David Rumm (Southborough & District Whls) finished a further six seconds behind in third.
Dwyer was also fastest veteran on standard with a +5.36.
In the women’s event junior rider Wilkes clocked a winning time of 25 minutes and seven seconds.
She finished almost a minute and a half ahead of Katerina Avramides (Brighton Mitre CC) in second clocking 27.34.
