Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) notched up his latest victory with a strong performance in the Brighton Mitre CC 25-mile time trial near Brighton on Easter Monday, while Harriet Cunningham (Brighton Tri Club) was fastest female.
44-year-old Lindfield resident Smith clocked 1-02-11 for the GS999 course ear Devil’s Dyke in West Sussex, giving him the win by 1-03 from South Downs Bikes rider Stuart Bettis.
Third spot went to David Pena (Blazing Saddles) who was around three and a half minutes further back, while 38-year-old Harriet Cunningham (Brighton Tri Club) covered the challenging course in 1-28-17.
Brighton Mitre CC won the team prize with Simon Dowling, Mik Onions and Jack Smith teaming up, while the fastest person on a road bike was Steve Kane (Team ASL) who clocked 1-09-37 for eighth place overall.
It was not Smith’s first win of the season, having already tasted victory at the Southern Counties CU 10-mile event a fortnight earlier.
He is next in action at the Sussex CA two-up 28.5-mile event on April 8 where he will team up with Mark Emsley as the last pair off.
After several hours of rain prior to the event it eased for the early starters, but all riders had to contend with rain for at least half of the event.
