Gary Chambers and Jessica Finney finish top man and woman in the Southdown Velo 28-mile time trial in West Sussex on Sunday morning.
Chambers covered the undulating P911 course in 1-06-39 to take yet another win in the 2018 season. The Nopinz rider racked up his 11th victory of the year, beating Rich Hunt (Army Cycling Union) by 1-50.
Hunt has fared relatively well over longer distances including tenth place amongst a stacked field in the National 100 in June. In Goodwood, he posted a time of 1-08-29 for his fourth podium of the year.
Joe Parker (Blazing Saddles) capped off the podium with a time of 1-11-08. Parker has good memories of the course after finishing first on a hill-climb version hosted by his team last month.
Jessica Finney (Cycle Team OnForm) topped the women’s category for a second time on record. Her time of 1-21-13 was enough to finish 12th overall and nearly four minutes ahead of second place, which eventually fell to Kirsty McSeveney (Fareham Wheelers CC) in 1-25-09.
Deborah Smith (Southdown Velo) was third in 1-28-31.
Quickest host club rider was Shaun Smart in ninth place who managed to clock 1-16-31.
The P911 course sees riders tackle two tough climbs in the first five miles before a slow descend is followed by a sharp climb and descent near East Dean. One last climb just outside of Boxgrove punishes riders legs after 20 miles before the reaching the finish with a steep downhill sprint to the finish.
