Gary Chambers made a winning return to his former club as he won the time trial bike category of the Fareham Wheelers sporting 10 on Saturday.

Chambers, who now rides for NOPINZ, was a comfortable winner, stopping the clock more than a minute before anyone else.

He completed in 22.17 and current Fareham Wheelers CC representative James Brickell was second quickest in 23.28. Andy Smith of VC St Raphael was third in 23.46, 18 seconds down on Brickell.

Angela Carpenter of A3crg was the fastest woman and tenth overall in 24.51. Fareham Wheelers took the team prize.

The event also boasted a separate event for road bike riders and it had a good uptake with 24 completing. The quickest was Dave Dent of GS Stella in 23.42.

Darryl Rice of RC Ravenna was second, over a minute off the winning pace in 24.48, and Andover Wheeler Max Webber was third in 25.11.

The event was blessed with fairly good conditions, although the sporting course takes in a big climb in the form of Portsdown Hill and the top of it is exposed to wind from the sea and the rain lashed down there.

There were riders aged from 14 to 80 with the youngest being Izzy Brickell and the eldest being home club rider Brian Hygate.
