Hannah Riechart and Kieran Wynne-Cattanach finished top female and male in the Halifax Imperial Wheelers 0.9 mile hill climb Saturday.

The men’s category was won by Wynne-Cattanach (Team B38-Underpin Racing) after posting a time of 5-01.5 to take the victory by around 13 seconds.

The 21-year-old hill climber has only one previous event on record for the season where he finished sixth in last weekend’s Beacon Wheelers hill-climb but his youthful legs traversed the terrain in fine fashion for the win.

Chris Crabtree (Orwell Velo) equalled his best finish of the year as he took second spot with a time of 5-14.1. The podium sees Crabtree finish second for two weeks in a row but will look to improve in the Bec CC event next month.

The gap to third was considerably bigger over the short 0.9 mile distance but the finest of margins decided it as Martyn Stewart (East Lancashire RC) claimed it by less than a second ahead of Lee Carter (Ribble Valley).

Stewart crossed the line in 5-57.2 whilst Carter was a mere 0.9 seconds back in 5-58.1.

The women’s category was much clearer as Hannah Riechart (Albarosa CC) powered to the win in 6-55.8, winning by 2-14 ahead of host club rider L. Dodd.

Riechart will hope to keep her form going when she competes in the Worcester St John’s CC & Wyre Forest CC hill climb in a fortnight.

Dodd (Halifax Imperial Wheelers) finished with a time of 9-19.2 for second whilst team-mate Holly Norris had to settle for third in 9-11.8.

Patrick Casey (Cycle Sport Pendle) finished the day as top juvenile as he halted the stopwatches on 7-24.8, finishing 18th overall.
