Beldon breaks course record in City RC 10

Simon Beldon set a new course record and won the City RC 10 on Good Friday and was part of a Team Bottrill trio that took the team prize.

Half of the riders on the start sheet were no-shows after it was decided to run the event on this V714 course instead of the notoriously fast V178.

The V178 is currently being reviewed for suitability, although any opportunity to compete on the course is something that riders savour with fast 10-mile times possible.

Despite the loss of more than 50% of the field, Beldon was a worthy winner, breaking the record with a time of 20.10.

His team mate Daniel Barnett was 34 seconds off the winning pace, stopping the clock at 20.44, although that was enough to earn him second place.

The podium was completed by Drag2Zero rider Gavin Hinxman who clocked a time of 21.05 to take third by eight seconds.

The team prize was taken by Team Bottrill with Beldon, Barnett and Neil Parkin, who finished sixth, combining for a time of 1:02.44.

Cavan Walker of CT Onform put in an impressive display to take the junior prize and joint eighth overall, he completed in 22.01. Adam Jarps of Team Bottrill was second quickest junior in 22.07 and Autocentres Racing’s Harry Buxton was third with 22.49.

Another Team Bottrill rider, Karen Ledger, took the women’s prize. Ledger raced round the course in 23.56 with Team Swift duo of Fiona Sharp and Kirsty Bramley second and third respectively.

Sharp put down a time of 24.24 and Bramley 24.51 and took the two-woman team prize for Team Swift.
