In preparation for the National Team Time Trial Championships next weekend Blaydon CC saw both their men’s and women’s team clinch victory in the North Tyneside Riders 4-up Team Time Trial.
Local knowledge proved key for the men’s quartet of Justin Ramel, Steven Craggs, Julian Macbride and Hedley Fletcher who clocked the fastest time of 56 minutes and 15 seconds to take victory by over two and a half minutes.
The M2511 course saw riders complete two laps of a circuit which headed north out of Stamfordham village in an anti-clockwise loop through Black Heddon and Matfen and back towards Stamfordham.
Riders competing over the sporting course were greeted by warm and breezy conditions.
Despite having only three riders Barnesbury CC’s team of Steve Clark, John Routledge and Terry Wilkinson clinched second on the day in a time of 58.58.
A tight battle for third saw Derwentside CC finish in 1:02.11 just three seconds quicker than Allen Valley Velo.
It was a disappointing day for the Team Swift partnership of Lewis Timmins and Gemma Frost who were teamed up with Paul Bernardelli from Physiohaus Health & Performance.
An unwelcome puncture for Bernardelli at the furthest part away on the course ruined their day.
Blaydon CC also saw their women’s team clinch victory with Gemma Hutchins, Joanne Rea, Sara Cummings and Angela Mcgurk finishing ninth overall in 1:08:33.
They finished ahead of a composite team of Helen Parkin, Miriam Jessett, Jen Mcmahon and Hannah Baker in 1:13.18.
