Hannah Farran and Jamie Johnson were top woman and man in the Blaydon CC two-stage hill-climb event on Sunday.
Johnson (Barnesbury CC) ended a streak of third place finishes to take his second victory of the 2018 season.
Johnson last won back in June’s Allen Valley Velo but has seen his form improve dramatically from 2017. The Barnesbury CC rider finished second in the first stage, going on to win the second stage to give him overall victory with a time of 08-55.3.
Muckle CC veteran Colin Atkinson ended the day with a time of 09-03.9 to give him an overall second place, finishing 8.6 seconds off the winning time.
Stage one winner Niall Paterson (Velo Club Cumbria) had a six second lead going into to stage two but couldn’t convert his advantageous position as he fell to fourth in the latter stage of the day – Paterson ended in bronze medal position with a combined time of 09-09.7.
In the women’s category Hannah Farran (Boompods EDCO NRG) did make the most of the gap she had created in stage one. No less than a 13-second advantage was added to after a stage two win for Farran whose total time of 11-21.5 led the field by 15.9 seconds at the end of the day.
Sarah Wilkinson (Cestria CC) was second in 11-47.4 with Blaydon CC’s Joanne Rea in third with a time of 11-50.9.
James Mitchell (Hetton Hawks CC) was top junior who crossed the two finish lines in a combined 09-57.4.
