Dan Martin

Charmaine Pullen was fastest female while Dan Martin edged the men’s category in the Kent CA 10-mile time trial on Saturday.

The battle for quickest man went down to the narrowest of margins with Dan Martin (University of Bath CC) emerging victorious after clocking a time of 20-23.

The 10-mile event featured some top riders with 19-year-old Martin taking the prize by just one second ahead of Nicholas Fennell (Thanet RC). The victory took Martin’s win tally to an impressive seven for the season and two in a row after his win in last week’s VTTA (Kent Group) 10.

The older of the Fennell brothers, Nicholas set off a minute after winner Martin and matched him all the way but eventually couldn’t find an extra push which would have been his fourth win of the year.

Since finishing fourth in his opening time-trial of the year. Fennell has had an almighty run of podium finishes and his time of 20-24 kept that streak alive which has now risen to 15.

Not too far behind the top two was PMR @ Toachim House rider Neil Lauder. The 35-year-old Ashford resident finished in 20-42, only 19 seconds behind the top prize.

Lauder has won five times this season and finished a respectable ninth in last month’s National 12-hour Championship but the win was not to be on Saturday morning.

Charmaine Pullen (Folkestone Velo Club) notched up her seventh win of the season after leading the rest of the field by an impressive 1-13 over the short, 10-mile distance.

Pullen’s time of 24-22 helped her finished 10th overall and take the women’s prize ahead of Thanet RC rider Nicola Goodban.

Goodban posted a time of 25-35 to take the second spot with Natasha Jarman (Southborough & District Wheelers) finishing third.

In other categories, fourth-placed Mark Hill (VeloRefined.com) was fastest veteran in 21-31 whilst Ryan Jackson (Lea Valley Youth) was one of two Juvenile riders in the field and posted a time of 27-24 to beat Max Robinson (Thanet RC).
