Nic Fennell

Nic Fennell (Thanet RC) and Charmaine Pullen (Folkestone Velo Club) were the main winners as De Laune CC staged a 25-mile time trial in Kent on Sunday morning.

Ramsgate-based Fennell clocked 52.29 for the Q25/8 near Challock, giving him the win by 1-44 from Andrew Meilak (Velorefined Aerosmiths), while Mike Piper (Abellio SFA RT) was another 2-16 off the pace in third spot.

Canterbury-based rider Charmaine Pullen, 48, covered the course in 1-04-26 to secure another victory on a morning which started misty and chilly but cleared during the event.

Fennell’s win was the latest of a string of good results in 2018. He has recorded victories in the VTTA Kent 6.6-mile event in March, as well as the Kent CA 25 last month. He also has several second place finishes including the Sydenham Wheelers 25 and Wigmore CC 25 earlier this month.

And similarly for Pullen, the win was the latest this season having been fastest female in last weekend’s Sydenham Wheelers 25 as well as the West Kent Road Club 10 last month.

The Q25/8 course takes riders from a start near Molash, through Chilham and up to the outskirts of Canterbury before turning back down the A28 through Godmersham and on to the edge of Ashford, then retrace back north to a finish near Chilham.

Fabien Large (Direct Power RT) clocked 59-49 to take the prize for the best junior rider, while the team prize went to Thanet Road Club with Fennell being joined in the victorious trio by Simon Henderson and Adrian Hawkins for a combined time of 2-48-10
