Kevin Tye (VeloRefined.com Aerosmiths) and Joanna Smith (Thanet RC) secured victory men and women’s category wins in the Medway Velo Club 10-mile time trial on Saturday.
Tye won here last year ahead of Neil Lauder and powered to his first open win of the 2018 season with a 19-second margin after crossing the line in a remarkably similar time to his 2017 win, eventually posting a 20-46 ahead of Dean Chiddention.
Tye’s previous best of the season had been in last months VTTA (East Anglia) 25 where he finished second but he held out to take the top prize on Saturday morning.
The VeloRefined.com rider has a busy month with another four possible events planned already. His next ride will be in next week’s North Hampshire RC 10.
42-year-old Chiddention (Abellio – SFA Racing) pushed Tye all the way and clocked a 21-05 but the gap was unassailable for the Abellio rider.
Whilst Chiddention powered to try and supersede Tye, Oliver Robinson (Team Wiggins) was hot on the heels of the second-placed and missed out by the narrow margin of 11 seconds.
Third place leaves Robinson with four consecutive third place finishes after his last win in the Thanet RC 2-up event in early April.
Joanna Smith (Thanet RC) produced a strong ride to beat out the women’s competition by 1-08 ahead of team-mate Nicola Goodban.
Smith pipped her impressive team-mate with a time of 24-52 as Goodban came home in 26 flat.
Last week’s Southborough & District Wheelers 10-mile winner Debbie Percival (Kent Velo Girls/Boys) finished third.
