Kevin Lane battled against wet and windy conditions to set a personal best to win the Virtual Cycling Club 25 in a time of 54 minutes exactly.
Despite having 67 riders down to ride on fast R25/7 course between Usk and Monmouth due to the conditions only seven took to the start-line.
Event organiser Simon Kinsey said: “It was a fine line whether we ran the event or not.
“There were 67 riders down to ride but only seven starters and one of those punctured.
“I really thought hard about cancelling the event and it wasn’t pleasant conditions, but we did run the event and it went off without any incident.
“We reconfigured the prize list to give them all a prize and a free entry at our next event in September.”
Despite the conditions veteran rider Lane took a personal best time by over a minute to clinch the victory.
He was chased home by team-mate Gary Jones (Successcycling.co.uk) who clocked 56.23 while Rob Hall (Salt and Sham CC) took third a further 26 seconds back.
