Veteran rider Joe Beer (North Devon Wheelers) took a fine victory in the Sportzmad 10 while student Anna Morris (Southampton University RC) won the women’s event with both riders clocking personal bests.
Beer, 51, recorded an open personal best on the fast R10/17 course in a time of 20 minutes and 26 seconds.
His time was 48 seconds quicker than the 21.14 he recorded in the Cardiff 100 miles RC 10 over the same course last September when he took 12th on that occasion.
Despite conditions looking good on the R10/17 course riders found a headwind out along the A40 towards Raglan and then a side-wind back.
Beer was a comfortable victor taking the win by 14 seconds from Michael Davis (Bikestrong-KTM) clocking 20.40 while Carwyn Davies (Cwmcarn Paragon RC) finished third a further five seconds back.
An impressive ride by Morris in the women’s event saw her finish in 21.04 which was good enough for victory by almost three minutes.
The 23-year-old clocked an average speed of 28.4 miles per hour around the South Wales route clocking a personal best time.
The R10/17 course has seen Morris take victories in the Pontypool 10 and Ross-on-Wye & Dis CC 10 already this season but this was her fastest ride, she also won the same event last year clocking 21.37.
Michelle Fishbourne (Team Backstedt Bike Performance) led the rest of the women home in second finishing in 23.54 while veteran Joanna Knight (Bristol South CC) took third in 24.50.
