Talented junior female Pfeiffer Georgi and veteran Tony Chapman were fastest female and male riders respectively as Severn Road Club staged a 25-mile time trial on the U17 near Falfield in Gloucestershire on Sunday morning.
The 17-year-old Liv CC Halo Cycles rider clocked 1:02.49 to place third overall and finish as the fastest female by an impressive 4-57 from Joanne Jago (Performance Cycles).
Overall fastest was veteran Tony Chapman, the Frome and District Wheelers 46-year-old from Warminster in Wiltshire. His time of 58.51 was the only sub-hour time posted, and gave him the win by 34 seconds from Simon Ward (Bristol Road Club).
The event took riders up the A38, but with a loop added in to extend the distance.
From the start near Woodford they head north before turning off west just before they cross the railway line. A loop through Breadstone and skirting the north side of Berkeley is covered twice before returning onto the A38 and heading up to the junction with the A4135 before the Slimbridge turn, then head back south, beyond the start point to a finish near Stone.
Chapman’s win comes after several minor placings in the same event over the years, albeit on slightly different courses. He was third in the 2017 event and second in the 2016 event, and has finished in the top ten on several other occasions in this Severn RC late February promotion.
He placed seventh in last week’s Frome and District Wheelers 10, and next will target the Chippenham and District Wheelers 22 on March 4 and the Gillingham and District Wheelers 19 on March 10.
Georgi – the reigning National 25-mile Junior Champion - was also the winner of this event in 2017, although it was on a different course. She is planning to ride the Dursley Road Club 10 next Saturday as well as the Chippenham and District Wheelers 22 the following day.
