York rider Philip Graves was back to winning ways with a hard-fought victory in the Hartlepool 10-mile event on Saturday.
The Nopinz man hasn’t been on the top of the podium for a while but it was only a matter of time before he recaptured the form that saw him win numerous events last season.
He completed the course in 19.59 to claim top spot and Drag2zero veteran Keith Murray, a regular winner in the region, came second just seven seconds off Graves’ time. He took the veteran’s prize.
There was a 44-second difference between Murray and third-placed rider, Team Bottrill-Vanguard’s Kris Atkin, who completed in 20.50.
Team Swift’s Alex Smethurst was one of only two female riders in the field, she took the women’s prize finishing 25th out of 41 finishers with 24.10.
Adept Cycling duo Gary Hunt and Shaun Tyson were second and third in the veteran category. Hunt stopped the clock in 20.57 and Tyson in 21.07.
Junior rider Sam Murray, son of Keith Murray, showed that riding runs in the family with a top ten finish, with a time of 22.09.
