Peter Boyes (TS Racing Team) and Becky Penty (York Triathlon RT) were fastest male and female riders as Cleveland Wheelers staged a challenging 21-mile time trial near Stokesley in North Yorkshire on Sunday.
Boyes, 33 and from Redcar, covered the T211r in 45.39 to take victory by 28 seconds from Peak Road Club’s Steve Gibson, while third spot went to Harry Walker (Revolver Racing) who was another 20 seconds off the pace.
Behind them, a brace of Harrogate Nova riders were next, Glen Turnbull taking fourth with 46-43 while his team-mate Duncan Mullier was nine seconds further back in fifth place.
In the women’s event, York-based Becky Penty took the win, the 33-year-old covering the course in 58.33 to win by 2-29 from Gemma Pearson (Cleveland Wheelers) while her team-mate Patricia Bell was third fastest woman, just two seconds slower than Gemma. Fourth fastest woman was another Cleveland Wheelers rider Angela Ackerley, who was only one second behind Bell.
The course takes riders from the start just to the west of Stokesley towards Hutton Rudby, and then down to the A172. A left turn takes them back up to the southern fringes of Stokesley before heading back out south to Great Broughton, then on to Ingleby Greenhow, and back north to Easby and on to a finish to the east of Stokesley, just before they join the A173.
Second-placed Gibson was fastest veteran, and top junior rider was the promoting club’s own Aaron Preston who clocked 47.51 to win in that category by 57 seconds from team-mate Toby Tanfield.
