Kevin Tye took victory in his 24th time trial of the year at the Essex Roads CC event on Saturday, completing the just over 10-mile course in 20.54.
The Velorefined Aerosmiths rider now has 12 podium finishes this year, although this is only his second win with his other victory coming in the Medway VC 10 back in May.
The veteran was on fine form here, top of the pile in a field of 37 finishing riders. He took victory by nine seconds with Aspire Velo RT’s Andy Sewell second in 22.03, 1.09 down on Tye.
Incredibly, there was a three-way tie for third place. A further 27 seconds slower, Scott Cousins (Maldon & District CC), Andy Stuart (VC St Raphael) and Martin Reynolds (Cambridge CC) was third in 22.30.
It is Cousin’s second third-place finish in as many events with third step on the podium also welcoming him at the Colchester Rovers CC time trial last weekend.
The fact that three riders tied for third led to Darran Bennett of Ely & District CC being awarded sixth place, despite being only six seconds slower than third.
Julia Freeman of Easterley RC was the fastest woman on the day, recording a time of 26.05.Eva Nyirenda of a3crg was second in 28.07 and just a second behind her was Katie-Ann Elliston of Southend Wheelers in 28.07.
