The VC Glasgow South 10-mile event near Newton Mearns was won by Catherine Logan and John Archibald on Saturday.

Archibald (Ribble Pro Cycling) clocked 19-41 and was the only man under the 20-minute mark as he took victory by a sizeable 1-27.

The 27-year-old finished second in last week’s final leg of the Knight Composites Classic Time Trial Series but powered to yet another victory in 2018.

He produced a fine performance to beat last year’s winner Douglas Watson who finished second respectively.

Watson (GTR – Return to Life) has only failed to finish in the podium places once this season and continued that trend as the 45-year-old’s time of 21-08 was good enough to hold third-placed David Griffiths and take the plaudits for fastest veteran.

Griffiths (Bioracer-Project GO) was another man looking to maintain a streak and did just that, making it four podiums in four races of 2018 so far.

Catherine Logan (Fullarton Wheelers) took the women’s prize as she beat Deidre O’Reilly (Glasgow Wheelers) by a convincing 1-57.

Logan’s time of 26-16 led her to her maiden win of the 2018 season and she will look to maintain her form into Sunday’s Velopreda 9.5-mile event. Second-placed O’Reilly finished in a time of 29-13.

In other categories, Matthew McCullagh (Edinburgh RC) was the fastest juvenile of the day, crossing the line in 24-26 whilst home club VC Glasgow South’s Calum Doyle was fastest junior in 27-22.

Karl Farmer (VC Glasgow South) improved on last year’s seventh place in the event to finish fourth and be the home club’s top rider of the day.

The Walden Tri team duo of Jack Peasgood and Alison Patrick were prize winners for the tandem race as they finished in 23-03, over seven minutes ahead of second place.
