John Archibald of Ribble Pro Cycling sliced two minutes and 16 seconds off the existing CTT Scotland District record in at the Scottish District Championship on Sunday, completing in an incredible 48.13.

The existing record was set by John Entwistle last year and stood at 50.29 but Archibald’s searing form saw him lay down a new benchmark on a day that provided fantastic conditions for the entrants. It was dry and warm with just an easterly headwind on the return for the riders to deal with.

In second place was Liam Beaty of Hawick CC, 2.37 down on the winning time in 50.52. Kyle Gordon of RT23 completed the top three, 29 seconds down on Beaty with a time of 51.21.

Finishing down in sixth place with a time of 53.22, GTR-Return to Life rider Alan Holmes was the quickest veteran.

Mireille Captieux was the winner of the women’s event, well ahead of her competitors with a time of 1:00.57. Team mate Laura Nicolson was second in 1:03.46 and Pamela Craig of RT23 was third in 1:04.21.
