Andrew Whiteley and Alex Deck were the fastest male and female riders respectively as the VTTA North Midlands staged a 14.7-mile time trial in Nottinghamshire on Saturday.
Whiteley, the 27-year-old Langsett Cycles rider, covered the O14c course near Cuckney is 31-14 to take the win by five seconds from veteran Darryl Wall (Out of the Saddle CC), while Sam Walsham (Maxx RT) completed the men’s podium with third, 57 seconds off Whiteley’s pace.
Rutland CC's Alex Deck was fastest female, the 50-year-old from Chesterfield clocking 36-24 to win that category by 54 seconds from Sarah Harrison (Sheffield Tri Club), while Zoe Hibbard (Bolsover & Dist CC) was third.
The course takes riders on an anti-clockwise loop, starting near Cuckney and heading up the A60 before turning left just before Worksop and heading for Clowne. Just before reaching Clowne, the course takes riders back south east towards Cuckney.
The victory is Whiteley’s first open win of the 2018 season so far, but comes after several top ten placings and improving form. He was second in the Peak Road Club 17.2 last weekend and third in the Common Lane Occasionals 12 two weeks ago, while he was also third in the Sheffrec CC 25 in May.
For Alex Deck, the win is the latest this season. She was also fastest female at the Common Lane Occasionals 12 two weeks ago, and was victorious in the Rutland CC 17.2-mile time trial and Rossington Wheelers 10 in May, as well as the VTTA Notts and East Midlands 10 in March.
