Ben Healy (Zappi’s RT) and Emma Serjeant (Hafren CC) were quickest male and female at the Wrekinsport CC hilly time trial near Worfield in Shropshire on Easter Saturday.

Healy dominated the event which had to be shortened – the circuit, 0.6 miles shorter than it’s usual 18 mile length - was a re-run of the March 3 fixture which was haltered due to heavy snow.

The Zappi RT rider’s time of 36-48 was enough to claim the top spot for the impressive 17-year-old. The shortened track means last year’s winner Joshua Williams can hold onto the record time for now.

Harry Walton (Cheltenham & County CC) also impressed but finished 48 seconds adrift of Healy, 36-year-old Cheltenham-based Walton crossing the line in 40-36. Third place Matt Gibbons (Nova Raiders) bettered his eighth place finish in the 2017 event, going 2-51 better to a time of 41-32.

Emma Serjeant (Hafren CC) claimed the prize for fastest female. The 39-year-old clocked a time of 47-32 to finish 4-07 ahead of veteran Debbie Hutson-Lumb (Nova Raiders) who was the best female veteran on standard with +1-08 and actual time of 51-39.

Serjeant’s next planned race is in the Crewe Clarion Wheelers on the 13th of May.

Philip Glaze (Fishface Cycles RT) had the best actual time in the male veteran’s category with 42-42 but the 42-year-old didn’t take home the standard time crown – that went to 59-year-old Joseph Costello (Walsall Roads CC) who finished +5-58 ahead of scheduled time, crossing the line in 44-04.

In the team category Ludlow Brewery RT were celebrating victory with their three riders, Jack Wilson, Gary Walters and Chris Davies finishing first in a combined time of 2-12-11.

Third-placed Matt Gibbons’ team Nova Raiders collectively finished second – Gibbons along with veteran Debbie Hutson-Lumb were joined by Nick Long to finish six minutes behind team winners Ludlow Brewery in 2-18-02.

Riders follow the undulating K21/18 route from Worfield on the A454, eventually taking the B4176 to Sutton Maddock where riders take a sharp left down the A442 and down towards Bridgnorth. Another left turn back onto the A454 marks out a triangle shaped circuit in the East of Shropshire.
