Mark Fenton and Emily Martin were the fastest male and female riders respectively at the Manchester and District LCA 10-mile time trial in Cheshire on Saturday.
The field was split almost 50:50 between men and women, with some strong performances in both sides of the event on the J2/3 near Goostrey.
Martin, the 28-year-old Weaver Valley CC rider from Northwich, clocked 24-45 to take the win by just three seconds from Sarah Grant (Vision Racing), while Keri Parton (VeloRunner RT) was third, another 19 seconds back.
And in the men’s invitation event 50-year-old Fenton, the Stone Wheelers rider from Stoke, covered the course in 22-55 to win by 49 seconds from Martin Wiggan (Seamons CC), while Matt Hacker (North Cheshire Clarion) was third with 23-49.
The course takes riders from a start just to the east of Cranage, onto the A535 and up to a turn where the road meets the A537 south of Chelford, then tracks back to a finish about a mile short of the starting point.
Emily Martin was seventh when she last rode an open event on the J2/3 course back in April, in the Manchester and District Ladies CA 10. She clocked 26-45 then, but improved dramatically today by exactly two minutes.
Since then she has placed third on two occasions in the Racing Chance Foundation 25 in May and the Janus RC 25 in early June.
Like Martin, Mark Fenton also rode the Manchester and District LCA 10 back in April and was 11th on that occasion in a strong field. He improved 17 seconds over his first performance.
