John Archibald.

John Archibald (Pro Vision Cycle Clothing) sliced ten seconds from the long-standing course record set by Jason MacIntyre as he powered to victory in the Dooley’s Classic 10-mile time trial in Renfrewshire on Sunday.

Archibald, the 26-year-old from Glasgow who is preparing for next weekend’s National 10-Mile Championship, clocked an impressive 18.38 for the WW10/01 course along the coastline near Bishopton. Second went to Kyle Gordon (RT23) with 19.37, while Douglas Watson (Icarus Racing) was just four seconds further back in third.

Fastest woman was Lynsey Curran (Dooley’s RT) with 22.01, just three seconds quicker than her nearest rival Catriona MacGillivray (RT23)

The winner of the Scottish round of this season’s Knight Composites Classic TT Series, Archibald placed fourth in the National 25 Championship this year and is widely tipped to continue his cycling success into 2018.

He last rode this course – starting at West Ferry and heading along the A8 to a turn near Port Glasgow – in mid July when he clocked 19-08, but he bettered that time in the Dooley’s Classic with sunny, dry and still conditions.

Curran – who placed ninth overall in the Knight Composites Classic Time Trial Series despite only riding three of the six rounds - finished second woman in the Scottish round of that Series back in May.

Lynsey Curran.

Other notable performances in 2017 have seen has win the Glasgow Nightingale 10 on the same West Ferry course in April, where she was more than a minute and a half slower. And she was also fastest female in the Macclesfield Wheelers 25 back in April.

There were also some very good performances in other categories, with Alan Holmes (GTR) clocking exactly 20 minutes to win the over-40 veterans category by 57 seconds from Neil Pendrich (Edinburgh RC).

And the over-50s prize went to Glasgow Nightingale4’s Graham Cockburn who clocked 20.21 to win by 26 seconds from Peter Ettles (RT23).

Steve Beech (RT23) was best over-60 veteran with 23-00, while there was an impressive ride of 21.48 by David Millar, the evergreen SVTTA rider who was fastest over-70 rider.

Morgan Anderson (Pro Vision) was best espoir with 20-48, while Daniel Kain (Ythan CC) clocked 21-15 to finish as best juvenile, while the junior prize went to Glasgow CT’s Fraser MacDougall with 22-27.
