Jason Roberts and Robert Friel (Pro Vision Cycle Clothing) were the fastest duo in the Dooley’s RT two-up 17-mile time trial staged near Westferry on Saturday.
Veteran Roberts and his younger partner Friel clocked 33-25 for the WW17/02 course which takes riders from Bishopton Hill via the A8 on two laps of a course to Westferry and Woodhall roundabout before returning to Bishopton Hill.
Their time was good enough for victory by ten seconds, with runners-up Douglas Watson (Icarus Racing) and Daniel Cain (Glasgow Green) clocking 33-35 to finish just one second ahead of third-placed pairing David Griffiths (Pro Vision) and Liam Beaty (Hawick CC).
Meanwhile, the first pairing to include a woman placed fifth, with James Cusick and Lynsey Curran (Dooley’s RT) covering the course in 36-06.
Roberts clocked 20-46 on the nearby WW10/01 course as he finished seventh in the Inverclyde Velo 10 back in July.
Meanwhile, Friel was part of the Pro Vision Cycle Clothing trio which powered to sixth spot in the National Team Time Trial Championships over a 33-mile course in Yorkshire in June.
