Joanne Jago

Joanne Jago was once again the fastest woman and Andrew Feather took the overall title as the pair recorded emphatic victories at the Team Tor 2000 hill climb in Somerset on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the gale force winds served up by Storm Brian, the event attracted the largest field since its inception and the was an appearance from writer Paul Jones who donated copies of his hill climbing book to the winners.

In the women’s event it was Jago, who turns 37 this weekend, that had cause for celebration after blitzing the course in in 7:06.2.

That time gave the Performance Cycles CC rider from Bristol a comfortable winning margin of just over 31 seconds.

The prolific Jago now has three wins and two second place finishes in her last five rides, other successes coming at the Stratford CC and Severn RC climbs, with her final event before next weekend’s nationals coming at the Bristol South CC climb on Sunday.

It was Frances Bromley (Buxton CC) that took second place from fellow espoir Kate Baker (University of Bath CC) by just four seconds, clocking 7:37.6.

Andrew Feather

Andrew Feather won his first of two events this weekend before next Sunday’s Nationals, claiming overall victory for Bike Chain Ricci in 5:09.6.

Despite the tricky conditions, Feather scored an equally impressive 26 second triumph just nine seconds slower than the course record set by Jim Henderson when the UH20 was used for National Hill-climb in 2000.

Second place went to Joe Norledge (Bristol South CC), whose time of 5:25.7 held of the ride of Andrew Kirby (University of Bristol CC) by 2.5 seconds.

Elsewhere, the fastest veteran and junior both made it inside the top, Gordon Markus (Severn Road Club) and host rider Ben Wainwright, earning those respective accolades.
