James Hayward chalked up another victory with a strong performance at the Chippenham & District Wheelers hill climb on Saturday, whilst Hannah Slade was the fastest woman.
The UHC80 on Bowden Hill was tackled by nearly 30 riders, the course measuring just over 2km in length with an elevation of over 120 meters.
It was Hayward, one of the form hill-climbers this season, that took the victory, stopping the clock in four minutes 29 seconds.
The 37-year-old Woolwich CC rider from London set the time with six riders to go, but it would not be eclipsed, giving Hayward a winning margin of five seconds.
Hayward has now topped the standings in each of his last four events, with wins at the Wigmore CC, Stocksbridge CC and Reading CC 2-stage climbs to his name.
Jacob Pilkington as the nearest challenger to Hayward, the Velo Club Montpellier rider clocked 4.34 to take second place.
Charles Coleman (DRK Racing) briefly held the lead, he has posted 4.38 to go into first before the rides of Hayward and Pilkington, Coleman settling for third.
In the women’s competition it was Hannah Slade who claimed victory for hosting club Chippenham and District Wheelers.
The 33-year-old from Chippenham stopped the clocked 5.12 in her ride, enough for a sizable 31 second victory over Joanne Jago (Performance Cycles).
Slade, who celebrates her birthday next weekend, turned the tables on Jago after the two reversed their positions from last month’s Somerset Road Club climb.
Meanwhile, the days fastest veteran was Danny Axford (Arctic Tacx RT) who just missed out on the podium by five seconds to claim fourth place overall.
There were two younger riders in action on Saturday morning two, Jacques Coates (Performance Cycles CC) the fastest junior with a time of 5.27 and juvenile Marco Matano (73 Degrees CC) posting 7.13.
