Curtis and Lethbridge victorious in Bison hill-climb
The promoting club’s own Josh Curtis proved fastest in the Bison Hill climb near Whipsnade Zoo in Bedfordshire on Sunday, while National 12-hour champion Alice Lethbridge showed she can tackle shorter distances too with victory in the women’s category.
19-year-old Curtis clocked 2.36 for the one-kilometre climb, giving him the win by eight seconds. Calvin Cheung (Hub Velo) was just a few hundredths of a second quicker than Martin Smith (London Phoenix) in third.
Meanwhile, Lethbridge had a close win in the women’s event, her time of 3.15 giving her the win in that category by just two seconds from Dulwich Paragon rival Jacintha Hamilton-Love, while third was Kristin Stolpe (Lovelo Cinelli).
The FHC1 climb has an average gradient of eight per cent, climbing 84 metres over the length of the one-kilometre long course.
Nathan Woodhouse (Leighton Buzzard RCC) was fastest in the juvenile category with 2-50, just one second quicker than Oliver Stockwell (Welwyn Wheelers) in second who was just narrowly ahead by less than a second from third-placed team-mate Archie Peet.
And the promoting club took the win in the team category by 1-25 from VCT Racing, with the winning trio being Curtis, Will Holland and Nicholas Darvell.
