Chris Fennell.

Chris Fennell (Thanet RC) beat the course record he set last year by almost a minute to win the Kent CA 25 in 49 minutes and 50 seconds, with Charmaine Pullen (Adalta CC) taking the women’s victory.

21-year-old Fennell made it victory number 19 of the season as he continued to dominate the local cycling scene, beating last years’ time of 50.48.

Thanet-based Fennell, who finished second in the National Circuit Championships last season, has raced local events this campaign and has been chalking up the victories.

“It was ideal conditions for that course because there was a reasonably strong south westerly wind,” said Fennell.

“It’s not the fastest 25 course because it has two flyovers but it is on good roads. My form isn’t too bad but it is getting late in the season now.”

The Q25/10 course sees riders complete two laps of an out and back course along the A28 between St Nicholas-at-Wade and Herne Bay.

On this occasion, Chris beat older brother Nicholas Fennell (Thanet RC) into second who finished in 53.42 while Neil Lauder (PMR@Toachim House) finished third nine seconds further behind.

Veteran rider Pullen took the women’s victory in 1:07.32 ahead of Jennifer Fearn (Thanet RC) in 1:25.47.

Fastest veteran of the day on standard was John Osbourne (Folkestone Velo Club) in +12.01. The Fennell brothers led Thanet RC to the team prize along with Huck Garip clocking an accumulative time of 2:39.51.
