Paul Burton (Epsom CC) clinched a clear victory in the men’s event and Jackie Dodd (Kingston Phoenix RC) the women’s in the Southern Counties 25.
Burton who finished third in the Worthing Excelsior CC 25 earlier this season went faster on this occasion and his time of 53 minutes and 58 seconds was enough for victory.
A cool day and breezy conditions met rider for the event which saw competitors start on the A24 near Horsham before turning onto the A264 towards Crawley and then turning for home.
Burton’s time almost a minute faster than team-mate Paul Haywood whose 54.49 was just enough for second.
Scratch rider Paul Byford (Crawley Wheelers) settled for third in a time of 55.07.
The stand out performance of the day came from juvenile Joseph Martin (Preston Park Youth CC) who finished in 56.38 while espoir Jonathan Melville (Epsom CC) clocked 58.09.
Veteran rider Dodd who finished 12th in the National 100 in July was the fastest woman in a finishing time of 1:09.15.
