James Gullen claimed victory at the Scarborough Paragon 10 on Saturday in a new course record time, with Fiona Sharp taking top spot in the women’s competition.
There were 42 riders taking on the hilly V415 course, just of the East Yorkshire coast, but it was Gullen who was in imperious form.
The 27-year-old JLT Condor man was in a league of his own, setting a new course record in a time of 19 minutes 48 seconds.
The formidable Leeds rider added the win to his 2017 collection over 10-miles and will be amongst the favourite to take the national title next weekend.
Despite being a minute down on Gullen, a strong showing from Graham Briggs made it a 1-2 for JLT Condor.
The 34-year-old stopped the clock in 20.51, with junior Cavan Walker (Prologue Race Team) putting in an excellent showing at 22.45 to claim a podium finish in third place.
SSLL Racing Team rider Blair Buss was the man to just miss out on the podium, finishing 16 seconds behind Walker, but he did take home the prize for the fastest veteran in fourth.
Fiona Sharp was the fastest woman on the day, taking the prize for her team York Cycleworks.
Sharp has had fourth and a second-place finishes in her last two outings in August at the Yorkshire CF 15 and the Tickhill Velo 10 respectively, but was back on top on Saturday.
The 38-year-old from York stopped the clock in 25.50 with a 52 second winning margin, beating off an impressive challenge from junior Hannah Bayes (Liv AWOL) who was her nearest rival.
