Edward O’Connell (Essa Cycling Club) and Ruth Burrows (Mid Devon CC) powered to victory in the Giant Helston 10 near Truro in Cornwall.
Espoir rider O’Connell was scratch rider and proved why to clinch overall victory by 15 seconds in a time of 21 minutes and 54 seconds.
The S6/10 course saw riders start from near Tresillian, near Truro, before travelling north on the B3275 through Ladock and Newmills before climbing up to the turn at Brighton roundabout and retracing the route home.
Still conditions promised for a fast day but many found that they performed slower than expected.
O’Connell who finished fourth in the St Budeaux sporting 15.6 earlier this season fared better over the flatter terrain to take victory.
Joe Healey (St Austell Whls) clocked 22.09 for second while early starter James Hadfield (Giant Helston) took third with a personal best of 22.16.
In the women’s category Burrows who also won the Western Time Trials 100 in June took the victory in 24.13.
Martina Geraghty (Penzance Wheelers CC) was beaten into second in 25.58 while Rose Willis (St Austell Whls CC) clinched third in 26.34.
Fastest veteran 40-49 was Kevin Dawson (Penzance Whls CC) in 22.16, 50-59 winner was John Fazakerley (Penzance Whls CC) 23.40 and the over 60 winner was Edward Trezona-Phillips (Giant Helston) in 25.08.
