Rob Stephenson (Southborough and District Wheelers) and Olivia Webb (Eastbourne Rovers CC) were fastest man and woman respectively as Eastbourne Rovers CC staged the Cliff Sharp Memorial 25-mile time trial in East Sussex on Sunday.
Veteran Stephenson clocked 53.45 for the G25/89 course near Maresfield, giving him the win by 15 seconds from Pete Morris (Team ASL), while the men’s podium was rounded off by Steve Dennis (East Grinstead CC) who was another 31 seconds off the pace set by Stephenson.
It was a one-two for the promoting club in the women’s category, with Olivia Webb clocking 1-08-07 to win by more than six minutes from team-mate Anita Turner.
There were various other categories too, with Stephenson leading Southborough and District Wheelers to the team prize alongside Matt Kuwertz and David Rumm.
Fabien Large (Direct Power CT) won the prize for the best improvement on their 2016 performance, his time of 1-01-31 being 4-30 quicker than in the same event 12 months earlier.
The promoting club’s Nathan Russell won the award for the best Under-30 rider, whjile the 30-39 category was won by East Grinstead’s Mark Bashford.
Brett Davis (Lewes Wanderers CC) was the pick of the 40-49 category, while David Rumm was fastest 50-59 rider. David Pollard (In Gear Quickvit) was the fastest 60-69 rider, while the over-70s prize went to Alan Walker (South Eastern RC).
