Gina McGeever (Lewes Wanderers CC) and Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) were the fastest woman and man respectively as Eastbourne Rovers CC staged the Stan Nash memorial 10-mile time trial in East Sussex on Saturday.
43-year-old Smith clocked 20.26 for the course near East Hoathly, giving him the win by 33 seconds from John Cockrill (Abellio-SFA RT), while Keith Lea (Paceline RT) was third, another seven seconds adrift.
McGeever, 45 and from Hove in East Sussex, clocked 25.29 to take the women’s prize, while the team award went to Eastbourne Rovers trio of David Clark, Michael Davey and David Clements, their combined time of 1-07-46 giving them the win over another trio of Eastbourne Rovers riders by more than six minutes.
Smith’s win is the latest of several victories he has secured in the 2017 season so far. He was first in the Sussex CA 30 last month, as well as in the a3crg 25 and the Whitewebbs CC 10. June saw him win the a3crg 25 on the same course, as well as the East Sussex CA 15 and the SCCU 50.
And in May he was also victorious in the Brighton Mitre CC hilly 10 and Lewes Wanderers 30, while the Sussex CA 25 in April and Crawley Wheelers sporting 41.6-mile events are also listed as victories on his extensive palmares.
McGeever was also the fastest female in the Sussex CA 30 last weekend, as well as the Old Portlians CC 25 in June. She was also quickest woman in the road bike category of the Brighton Mitre CC 10 in May, and was also part of the first two-up team with a woman at the East Sussex Ca two-up 23.9-mile time trial in April.
